What the numbers say
Most federal buying runs through a handful of departments: the top three account for 59% of open notices right now. Public Services and Procurement Canada is the government's central purchasing agent and buys on behalf of other departments, so if you sell to the federal government, most of your opportunities will come from a short list of buyers.
A large share of open notices are not one-off contracts. Requests for supply arrangements and standing offers put suppliers on a list that departments then buy from, so getting qualified on the right ones matters as much as winning a single bid. How standing offers and supply arrangements work.
And the window is short. 193 of today's 889 open notices close within a week, so a supplier who checks CanadaBuys once a month sees only part of what was out. How to bid on CanadaBuys.

The stated values of those 1,022 contracts add up to $16.2 billion, including taxes and covering each contract's full term, so a few large multi-year contracts account for much of it. Standing offers and supply arrangements are not counted in the values because they carry no fixed contract amount.
How these numbers are counted
- Open tenders: every row of the CanadaBuys open tender notices file, which lists notices still open for bidding.
- "Published in the last 7 days" uses each notice's publication date; "closing in the next 7 days" uses its closing date, which CanadaBuys publishes in UTC-5.
- Awards: the CanadaBuys award notices file for this fiscal year. Amendments are separate rows; each award notice is counted once, as first published.
- Contract values: only contracts (not standing offers or supply arrangements) with a value in Canadian dollars. Values include taxes, as CanadaBuys reports them.
- These files cover federal organisations only. Provincial, municipal and broader public sector tenders are posted elsewhere.
